Matthias Seuffert

Matthias Seuffert (born January 29, 1971 in Kronberg ) is a German jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , clarinet , arrangement ). His stylistic range extends from hot jazz to swing to bebop . He was internationally active from an early age.

Live and act

Seuffert received classical training on the piano and the clarinet. As a teenager he discovered jazz. Reimer von Essen was his mentor. Early on he played in Claus Jacobi's band ; under the direction of Keith Nichols , Harlem's Arabian Nights was created in 1996 , an album with previously unrecorded compositions by Duke Ellington and James P. Johnson . With Nichols he directed the Blue Rhythmakers (CD 2001).

Together with bassist Alyn Shipton , he led the Buck Clayton Legacy Band . He has also performed with musicians such as Red Holloway , Eddie Locke , Warren Vaché , Harry Allen , Scott Robinson , Dan Barrett , Marty Grosz , Randy Sandke and Kenny Davern as well as the Barrelhouse Jazz Band and the Pasadena Roof Orchestra . For the American stomp-off label Seuffert recorded two albums with the music of Louis Armstrong with Pam Pameijers New Jazz Wizards and the Swedish cornetist Bent Persson ; with Jon-Erik Kellso two albums with the music of the clarinetist Johnny Dodds were created .

Prizes and awards

Seuffert was awarded the Prix ​​Sidney d'Or in France in 1992 . In 2018 he was honored as Keeper of the Flame by the Park Lane Jazz Club Osnabrück .
