Karl-Heinz Wilmes (born July 14, 1938 in Günne ) is a German SPD local politician.

Politics and volunteering

Wilmes has been a member of the SPD since 1969 and has been active in local politics ever since. From 1969 to 2009 he was a member of the council of the community Möhnesee and in his hometown from 1989 to 2014 mayor . From 1975 to 2014 he was a member of the district council of the Soest district .

Since 2005 he has been an honorary judge at the Arnsberg Administrative Court . From 1969 until the merger with Sparkasse Soest in 2003, he was a member of the administrative board of Sparkasse Möhnesee and its chairman from 1989 to 1994.

He was chairman of the Heimatverein Günne-Theiningsen. His research and the organization of an exhibition to mark the 70th anniversary of the Möhne disaster in May 2013 attracted national and international attention.

Honors

In 1985, Karl-Heinz Wilmes received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his services to the community . In 1995 he received the Dr. Johann Christian Eberle Medal, the highest award of the German savings bank system. In 2015 he received the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class, presented by the NRW Minister Ralf Jäger .
