The Sparkasse Soest was a public-law savings bank based in Soest . The Sparkasse was run by the Sparkassenzweckverband, formed by the city of Soest and the municipalities of Bad Sassendorf , Lippetal , Möhnesee and Welver . history

Sparkasse Soest was founded in 1824 as the first financial institution of its kind in the province of Westphalia . A savings bank was not set up in Arnsberg until twelve years later, and then in Bochum (city), Hattingen and Iserlohn in 1838 . By April 1855, the number of savings banks in the administrative district of the Royal Arnsberg government had risen to 14. With deposits of 752,826 thalers at the end of 1854, the oldest among them, Sparkasse Soest, came first, followed by Sparkasse Dortmund (584,446 thalers) and Hamm (421,234 thalers).

Based on an ordinance from 1979, the Stadtsparkasse Soest , the Sparkasse of the municipality of Lippetal and the Sparkasse of the rural municipalities of the Soest Börde zu Soest (Bad Sassendorf and Welver) were merged into the Sparkasse Soest . The last merger so far took place on January 1, 2003 with the takeover of Sparkasse Möhnesee . In mid-2016, talks began about a possible merger with Sparkasse Werl . A year later, on June 14, 2017, the merger of the two savings banks was sealed with the signing of the contract, which was implemented on January 1, 2018. The new institute is called Sparkasse SoestWerl .
