Karl-Jean Longuet (born November 10, 1904 in Paris ; † July 20, 1981 there ) was a French sculptor.

Life

Longuet was a son of Jean Longuet and great-grandson of Karl Marx . He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts with Niclausse and Boucher and his style was initially influenced by Maillol and Despiau. In 1949 he married Simone Boisecq (1922–2012). He named his son Frédéric after Friedrich Engels and his daughter after the Marx daughter Laura Lafargue . His works have been exhibited in Turin , Antwerp , Tokyo , Vienna and São Paulo , among others .

At a young age he created a bronze bust of his great-grandfather, which he presented to the SPD party executive in 1930 for the Marx Museum planned in Trier. The bust was presented to the public in Berlin, but this bust has been considered lost since the Nazi era. In the 1950s Longuet designed a new Marx bust in bronze, which was placed in the inner courtyard of Marx's birthplace in 2016.
