Karl-Ludwig Lange sees himself as a city photographer. His focus is on urban history and industrial archeology . Extensive groups of works such as “ Gasometer Schöneberg ” (1981); “ New Gothic in Berlin” (1982–1984), “Märkische Ziegeleien und Ziegel” (1993) or “Grenzwechsel” (1994) were created exclusively in black and white . Lange does not see himself as an architectural photographer, but rather as an urban documentarist. He photographed the changes in Berlin for over forty years. The Tagesspiegel writes that for a long time it was about "showing the scars, fractures and fallows in the city". He was able to depict the “attitude to life” of the city dwellers, who were resigned for a long time after the division: “There wasn't much left of the old meaning, and certainly not of the old splendor. Hold on and carry on, was the motto. Hope for better days. ”But even after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Berlin was“ still a scene of destruction ”for Lange and his pictures.
