Karl-Otto Frielinghaus

Karl-Otto Frielinghaus (born January 21, 1913 in Mülheim an der Ruhr , † April 21, 2000 in Ilmenau ) was a German pioneer of cinema technology and university lecturer .

Life

Karl-Otto Frielinghaus studied mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University . In 1932 he became a member of the Corps Marko-Guestphalia Aachen . After completing his studies and participating in the war, he first became a laboratory engineer at the Russian Technical Office. In 1952 he was at the Technical University of Berlin Dr.-Ing. PhD.

From 1955 to 1964 he headed the operations laboratory of the VEB DEFA Studio for feature films in Potsdam - Babelsberg .

In 1959 he was appointed professor with a teaching position at the University of Electrical Engineering, which later became the Technical University of Ilmenau , and became director of the Institute for Photo and Cinema Technology . From 1965 to 1968 he was acting head of the Institute for Lighting Technology. In 1978 he retired.

Frielinghaus was dean of the Faculty of Precision Mechanics and Optics at the University of Electrical Engineering from 1960 to 1963, and from 1963 to 1964 of the same faculty now at the TH Ilmenau. From 1968 to 1978 he was dean of the faculty for technical sciences.

He researched in particular in the field of image static errors in motion picture films , which is why he was also called the Bildstandspape in professional circles . During his scientific career he supervised around 700 doctorates.
