Karl Österreicher (officer)
Karl Ritter von Österreicher (born November 30, 1918 in Villach , † April 28, 2000 in Vienna ) was an Austrian major general and military attaché.
Life
Karl Österreicher joined the Lower Austrian Artillery Regiment No. 1 in Vienna as a one-year volunteer after graduating from Realgymnasium XIII in Vienna in September 1936 . After admission to the military academy in Wiener Neustadt (class N 38 / III) and after being taken over by the Wehrmacht , he was transferred to Rostock in September 1938 as senior ensign in artillery regiment No. 12 . With this regiment he took part in the attack on Poland . In 1941 he was deployed on the Eastern Front , in the northern section, later in the west on the Channel coast and in the Rhineland, and in 1943 he was promoted to captain.
After returning home, he initially found a job as an editor at the Vorarlberger Volksblatt and later as a broadcaster for Radio Vorarlberg and Radio Tirol.
In 1955 he applied for employment in the Austrian Armed Forces and was initially employed as a training officer at the artillery school and then as an adjutant of the 6th Mountain Brigade. After completing his general staff training at Fort Leavenworth (USA), he was accepted into the general staff service and was entrusted with the management of the attaché department in the Federal Ministry of Defense , then employed as a military and air force attaché , initially until 1969 for the Swiss Confederation with its official seat in Bern and later for the Hungarian People's Republic with the official seat in Budapest, whereby the latter post was also associated with the accreditation in the People's Republic of Bulgaria .
After these foreign assignments, he returned to the Ministry of Defense and took over the management of the General Staff Group B. Shortly after his promotion to major general in September 1979, he retired, which he spent with his second wife in a very withdrawn manner, mostly in Ried near Nauders in Tyrol .

Karl Österreicher was born in his first marriage to Irmgard . Steiner (from this connection comes the son Michael Oesterreicher, born in 1943 , who now lives as a musician in Australia) and in his second marriage to Edith geb. Sailer married.
