Karl Albrecht junior (born June 4, 1947 in Essen ) is a German entrepreneur and heir and co-owner of Aldi Süd . Together with his sister Beate Heister , he controlled assets of 34.6 billion US dollars (approx. 30.8 billion euros ) in mid-2019 , making him one of the richest Germans .

Like other members of the Albrecht family , he lives withdrawn and there are only a few publicly accessible photos of him.

Life

Karl Albrecht junior was born in 1947 to Karl Albrecht and Mia Albrecht (née Tenbrink). He graduated from high school in Switzerland , after which he studied law and graduated with a doctorate in law. He then began to work in various positions for the Aldi Süd group, where he was responsible for business in the United States , among other things . He retired in 2004 after contracting cancer for the third time , from which he has since recovered.

Karl Junior is married to Gabriele Mertes (born 1953) and has no children.

He and his sister Beate Heister control the family foundation , the Siepmann Foundation (named after their grandmother), which in turn controls Aldi Süd, the source of their joint wealth. The foundation holds the total assets and trademark rights to Aldi Süd. In the list the world's billionaires by Forbes he occupied in 2019 together with his sister Beate Heister place 23rd

Other foundations are the Oertl Foundation , formerly the Maria Albrecht Foundation, and the Elisen Foundation . While the Oertl Foundation financially supports cardiovascular research, the Elisen Foundation is dedicated to promoting cultural projects.
