Karl Albrecht junior (born June 4, 1947 in Essen ) is a German entrepreneur and heir and co-owner of Aldi Süd . Together with his sister Beate Heister , he controlled assets of 34.6 billion US dollars (approx. 30.8 billion euros ) in mid-2019 , making him one of the richest Germans .

Like other members of the Albrecht family , he lives withdrawn and there are only a few publicly accessible photos of him.

Life

Karl Albrecht junior was born in 1947 to Karl Albrecht and Mia Albrecht (née Tenbrink). He graduated from high school in Switzerland , after which he studied law and graduated with a doctorate in law. He then began to work in various positions for the Aldi Süd group, where he was responsible for business in the United States , among other things . He retired in 2004 after contracting cancer for the third time , from which he has since recovered.

Karl Junior is married to Gabriele Mertes (born 1953) and has no children.

He and his sister Beate Heister control the family foundation , the Siepmann Foundation (named after their grandmother), which in turn controls Aldi Süd, the source of their joint wealth. Other foundations are the Oertl Foundation , formerly the Maria Albrecht Foundation, and the Elisen Foundation . While the Oertl Foundation financially supports cardiovascular research, the Elisen Foundation is dedicated to promoting cultural projects.
