Karl Heinrich Ernst Assmann (born July 27, 1890 in the Friedrichsberg district of Lichtenberg near Berlin, † April 1, 1970 in Pirna ) was a German librarian.

Life

Assmann studied modern philology and philosophy in Marburg and Greifswald and received his doctorate in 1913. In 1919, after military service in the First World War, he came to the Saxon State Library in Dresden as specialist advisor for English studies and head of the library services , of which he was director from 1945 to 1948 and from 1952 to 1957 .
