Karl Böcklinger

Karl Böcklinger (born May 29, 1916 in Urfahr , † April 28, 1977 in Linz ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic clergyman and university professor, canon of the Linz cathedral chapter and full professor of moral theology.

Life

Prelate Dr. theol. lic. phil. Karl Böcklinger was born on May 29, 1916 in Urfahr. After graduating from the State High School Linz Spittelwiese in 1935 with honors, he studied theology at the Gregoriana in Rome. On October 26, 1941, he was ordained a priest in Rome by Archbishop Luigi Traglia . After military service, pastoral work in South Tyrol and doctorate magna cum laude in Rome, he came in 1946 as a religion professor at the Federal High School in Linz. From autumn 1947 to 1963 he was a spiritual and religion professor at the Kollegium Petrinum in Linz. In 1950 he received a teaching position for canon law at the Philosophical-Theological Diocesan School, in 1956 he became professor for canon law. In 1962 he became a full professor of moral theology, as such he also taught at the Philosophical-Theological College in St. Pölten and at the Pedagogical Academy in Linz and Krems, and for one semester in 1973 at the University of Salzburg . For some periods (1960–1962, 1970–1972) he was dean, and in between he was vice dean of the Philosophical-Theological University.

In 1964 he became cathedral capitular, canonicus theologus and chairman of the examination committee for the teaching post for Catholic religion in secondary schools, in 1970 he was inspector for religious education at the educational academies. In 1948 he became prosynodal judge, 1950 prosynodal examinator, 1952 marriage bond defender , 1965 vice-official of the diocesan court and 1972 synodal examinator. In 1963 he was appointed Episcopal Commissioner for the Community of Our Lady of the Path and the Oblates of St. Franz von Sales ordered. In addition, he was active in various committees and as a lecturer in the Catholic Education Center, as well as a preacher and confessor in the cathedral and in various parishes. In 1966 he was made a Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher , in 1970 Papal Honorary Prelate, and in 1975 he received the Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .

He died on April 28, 1977 in the hospital of the Sisters of Mercy in Linz and after a pontifical request in the cathedral was buried on May 3 in the family grave in the Urfahr cemetery.
