Karl Bethke

Karl Bethke (born November 7, 1878 in Groß Lubin , Schwetz district ; † June 13, 1929 in Dresden ) was a German social democratic politician.

Bethke learned the profession of wood sculptor and worked as a journeyman in this trade until 1911 .

In 1903 and 1904 he was chairman of the branch of the sculptors' association in Berlin . Bethke was also a member of the central executive committee of the SPD for Greater Berlin from 1909 to 1911. Between 1911 and 1919 he worked full-time as a party secretary and editor in Freiberg in Saxony.

During the November Revolution he was a delegate to the first Reichsräte Congress . After that, Bethke was a member of the Weimar National Assembly . Between 1920 and 1926 he worked as district party secretary of the SPD for East Saxony, based in Dresden. Between 1920 and 1929 he was a member of the Saxon state parliament .

In the Saxon conflict, Bethke supported the Max Heldt government from 1924 to 1926 and converted to the old social democratic party . There he was a member of the central board and from 1928 was chairman of the East Saxony district. From 1926 he was editor of the "Saxon State Newspaper" in Dresden.
