Karl Brüning , actually Johann Dietrich Brünings (* 1808 in Bremen , † February 14, 1870 in Saint Petersburg , Russian Empire ) was a German theater actor .

Life

As a boy, Brüning performed at the theater in his hometown and slowly trained himself to be a singer. His first engagement was at the court theater in Detmold , where he turned more to drama, in 1832 he came to the court theater in Hanover , 1834 to Aachen , 1836 to Dresden , 1838 to Hamburg and 1848 to St. Petersburg. He worked there continuously until his death.

Brüning was one of the most popular ensemble members both in Hamburg and in St. Petersburg , primarily as a bon vivant and later in father roles. Due to his masculine, beautiful figure, his sonorous organ and a pronounced ability to characterize, he gained a respected and valued name, mostly during the last 25 years of his artistic career.

Brüning was married four times. His first marriage to the actress ended in divorce shortly after the closure. Then in 1833 he married the actress von Palmstein, called "Seeberg", divorced Henriette Peuckert (born February 8, 1809 in Dresden), but separated from her in 1839 and married the famous actress Ida Wohlbrück on March 17, 1840 ( thus their father Gustav Friedrich Wohlbrück was his father-in-law), but this marriage was divorced the next year. On October 12, 1847, Brüning married the actress Konstanze Winter (born in Munich in 1825) for the fourth time .
