Karl Christian Klein

Karl Christian Klein , later von Klein , (also Carl Christian ; born January 28, 1772 in Stuttgart ; † February 9, 1825 ibid) was a Württemberg personal surgeon and court medic.

Life

Klein was the son of a personal surgeon from Württemberg. At first he enjoyed an early education in his parents' house and then from 1780 he attended grammar school in Stuttgart for eight years , before moving to the Hohe Karlsschule in 1788 , where he was accepted directly into the second medical department. Privately trained by his father and thanks to his assistance in operations, he had an outstanding knowledge that earned him several award medals and in 1791 the academic order of merit. In 1791 he was awarded the surgical apprenticeship certificate by the Chirurgis juratis in Stuttgart. He pursued further studies and was awarded the dissertation Specimen inaugurale Anatomicum Sistens Monstrorum quorundam Descriptionem to Dr. med. PhD .

After completing his doctorate, Klein went on extensive study trips from 1792 to 1796. First he went to the University of Würzburg , where he mainly studied with Adam Elias von Siebold and his son Carl von Siebold . The von Siebolds gave him further opportunities to study, for example at the hospitals of General Surgeon Görcke. Finally he attended the universities of Jena , Halle , Göttingen , Marburg , Gießen and Frankfurt .

In 1796 he returned to Stuttgart, where he became a ducal-Württemberg personal surgeon and was awarded the title of ducal court medicus . In the same year he also became a city and official surgeon in Stuttgart. In 1806 he received the post of a royal medical council , combined with a seat and one vote in the college of the Mecidinal Derpartements of the Kingdom of Württemberg . In 1814 he was also given the supervision of the Russian hospitals in the vicinity of Stuttgart, which had arisen there for the Russian troops of the Alliance as a result of the Wars of Liberation . He was later appointed senior medical officer.

Klein enjoyed an excellent reputation as a surgeon and doctor across national borders and made a name for himself as a forensic surgeon .

Honors and memberships

Klein was raised to the personal nobility and was awarded the Russian Order of St. Vladimir 4th class in 1816 .

In addition, Klein was a member of the Physiological Society in Jena (1796), the Göttingen Society of Friends of the Maternity Art (1796), the Göttingen Physiological Society (1796), the Mineralogical Society in Jena (1798), the Society of Helvetian Corresponding Physicians (1798) , the Natural Research Society of Swabia (1802) and the Wetterauschen Society for all natural history (1817).
