Karl Deicke

Karl Lorenz Deicke (born June 4, 1863 in Mülheim an der Ruhr , † April 30, 1943 there ) was a German magistrate and local researcher.

Life

Karl Deicke, son of the high school teacher Hermann Gustav Deicke (1826–1899) and his wife Maria Brewer, studied law at the universities of Bonn , Berlin and Göttingen . In 1886 he received his doctorate in Göttingen and, after passing the Second State Examination in 1891, found his first job as a judge at the Oberhausen District Court . Three years later he moved to the district court of Mülheim an der Ruhr .

As a trainee lawyer, Deicke was a member of the Mülheim citizens' association “Wigwam”, which was established in 1863 and dissolved in 1908. He was also involved in the Mülheim civil society “Mausefalle” and was one of the founding members of the Mülheim History Association (1906), of which he became chairman in 1939 after the death of his predecessor Paul Lembke .

The local history collections that he has compiled over many years include coins, historical photos and printed matter, which today are an important part of the holdings of the Mülheim an der Ruhr city ​​archive . 1900 volumes from his collection are in the Mülheim city ​​library .

Deicke died in an air raid on Mülheim in 1943.
