Karl Erck

Karl August Theodor Erck (born March 17, 1818 in Condé ; † April 2, 1880 in Detmold ) was a German Lutheran theologian and general superintendent of the dioceses of Hildesheim and Lüneburg-Celle .

Life

Erck, a son of Captain Ludwig Friedrich Erck, grew up in Hameln, Einbeck and Göttingen. From Michaelis 1836 he studied theology at the University of Göttingen . In 1839 he passed the first and in 1843 the second theological exam. After that, he initially held various tutor positions, including with District Administrator von Klencke in Hämelschenburg and as court master with Count von Bernstorff in Berlin. In 1851 he became the first inspector at the school teachers' seminar in Hanover , and in 1856 director of the institution. In 1859 he became superintendent in Alfeld (Leine) , in 1866 pastor at the St. Andreas Church and city superintendent of Hildesheim as well as general superintendent of the diocese of Hildesheim and member of the consistory in Hanover. In 1868 he moved as general superintendent from Lüneburg-Celle and first pastor at the town church of St. Marien in Celle . In 1879 he retired.
