Karl Erich Merseburger

Karl Erich Merseburger (born November 20, 1890 in Zeitz , † August 28, 1968 in Weinheim ) was a German artist. He signed with his initials KEM .

Life

Merseburger trained as a postal worker. He was a student of A. Brinkmann and Hans A. Fischer at the State Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Industry in Leipzig . He later worked as an illustrator, painter and graphic artist. His woodcuts, which he provided with his studio stamp KE Merseburger, Zeitz , became famous . He also worked as an ex-libris artist .

Until he moved from the GDR to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1960, he was a member of the Association of Fine Artists of the GDR and other associations. He won a 5th prize in a competition for culture and work in Berlin.

His second child from his marriage to his wife Gertrud, née Troeger, is the journalist Peter Merseburger .
