Karl Falkenberg (actor)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Franz Josef Falkenberg (born April 6, 1887 in Vienna ; † after 1936 ) was an Austrian actor on stage and film in Germany.

Live and act

Falkenberg went straight from secondary school to the stage without any training and made his debut at the age of 16 at the Jantsch Theater in Vienna . At the age of 18, he says he was discovered for the film by the Austrian cinematography pioneer Sascha Kolowrat-Krakowsky . He stayed at the Vienna theaters for several years, for example at the Residenzbühne in 1911, and claims to have made several films there at that time, the titles of which, however, cannot be verified. In 1912 there was evidence of an engagement at the Exl-Bühne in Baden and Graz, in 1912/13 at the Graz Theater on Franzensplatz. In 1914 he was engaged by the Vienna Intimate Theater, and in 1915 at the Vienna City Theater.

Falkenberg then moved to Berlin to take up an engagement at the Lessing Theater. Since 1916 he has appeared regularly in front of German film cameras, from then on Karl Falkenberg concentrated entirely on his film activities and no longer appeared in the theater. With his repertoire of roles, Falkenberg covered the whole range of different types of supporting roles: he played petty crooks like aristocrats, tango dancers like high priests, bricklayers like gentlemen's riders, detective inspectors like waiters. After 1936, Falkenberg's trail is lost.

In the 1920s, Falkenberg was married to her professional colleague Helena Makowska .
