Karl Ferdinand Müller

Karl Ferdinand Müller (born February 21, 1911 in Stettin ; † August 26, 1974 in Vence ) was a German Lutheran theologian and musicologist.

Life

Müller studied theology and musicology in Tübingen , Berlin , Erlangen and Greifswald . In 1952 he received his doctorate in D. theol.

Until 1945 he served as pastor in Pomerania. After the Second World War, Müller became pastor in Bad Schwartau and at the same time took over the management of the church music department of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Academy and the North German organ school in Lübeck . In 1955 he became director of the church music school in Hanover and after its dissolution (1972) one of the directors of the regional church office for worship and church music. Since 1967 he also had a teaching position at the church music department of the University of Music and Theater in Hanover.

Until 1963 he was a member of the Theological Commission of the Lutheran World Federation , until 1970 he was a member of the Commission for Worship and Spiritual Life. Müller was also a member of the Lutheran Liturgical Conference. He published numerous works in the areas of church music, liturgy and worship reform. In 1955 he founded the yearbook for liturgy and hymnology together with Konrad Ameln and Christhard Mahrenholz , which he also oversaw as editor. Together with Walter Blankenburg , he published the manual of evangelical worship under the title Leiturgia .
