Karl Friedrich Christoph Salzer

Karl Friedrich Christoph Salzer (born December 23, 1775 in Weinsberg , † December 6, 1852 in Durlach ) was a German pharmacist and chemist .

Life

Salzer was born as the son of the pharmacist Karl Eberhard Christian Salzer. After completing his apprenticeship as a pharmacist, he bought the farm pharmacy in Durlach in 1800. 9 years later he sold it again.

Between 1809 and 1833 Salzer worked as a state chemist in Karlsruhe . He was also a member of the Karlsruhe Mining Commission. In his publications he wrote a. a. About the production of gunpowder , about a process of rapid vinegar production and various practical methods of glue production. He also described the preparation of indigo from woad and the manufacture of lead sugar. In 1833 he wrote a thesis on how to make sea water drinkable with an air pump.
