Karl Friedrich Günther (* August 1786 in Leipzig ; † May 21, 1864 there ) was a German legal scholar.

Live and act

Ernst Friedrich Günther's brother (1789–1850) had completed a law degree at the University of Leipzig . After receiving his doctorate in law in 1808, he became an attorney at the High Court and in the consistory in 1809 . In 1823 he became assessor of the law faculty and in 1829 full professor of law and first professor of law in Leipzig.

His election from lawyer to the highest Saxon legal scholar at a university was an event that had never been practiced in the history of Saxony. Nevertheless, Günther prevailed qualitatively. He had made a name for himself in his time primarily through his legal monographs and writings on Saxon laws. He was rector of the Alma Mater in 1835/36 and 1844/45 . In 1846 he was President of the Spruchkollegium. As a representative of the Leipzig University he was from 1836/37 and from 1842 to 1847 member of the first chamber of the Saxon state parliament .
