Karl Germann

Karl Germann (* 1877 in Altstadt , today Kirkel ; † October 12, 1958 ) was a Saarland miner , unionist and politician of the CVP .

Life

Germann, who grew up with five siblings, attended the Protestant elementary school in Altstadt, after which he began, like his father, to work as a miner. In 1907 he was initially employed temporarily as a union secretary at the Christian Miners' Union, and the following year he was appointed permanent. In 1910 he took over the full-time district management in Neunkirchen within the union . In 1920 the Chamber of Labor appointed him to the government council, in this position he worked for the government commission from October 1, 1929. After being temporarily unemployed as a result of the ban on all trade unions in 1935, Germann worked as an insurance agent. In 1955 he was elected chairman of the general association of Christian trade unions on the Saar .

Germann was buried on October 15, 1958 in his hometown Altstadt. His only grandson died in World War II .

On January 10, 1946, Germann participated in the founding of the CVP, which later appointed him honorary chairman. For this he was elected to the first Saarland state parliament on October 5, 1947 . At the constituent meeting on October 14th, Germann gave the opening speech as age president . On October 7, 1952, shortly before the end of the electoral term, Germann was elected Vice President of the Landtag, which he also held in the new Landtag. After the early dissolution of parliament as a result of the referendum on the Saar Statute , Germann resigned from the state parliament in 1955.
