The Chamber of Labor is financed from membership fees that employers pay directly from gross wages .

Members of the Chamber of Labor

AK members are all employees employed in Saarland, including cross-border commuters who commute from France to Saarland, for example , to work here, as well as job seekers . All members, with the exception of those employed in vocational training and job seekers, pay 0.15 percent of their gross monthly wages as membership fees. The maximum amount from which the contribution is to be calculated is 100 percent of the applicable income threshold for pension insurance . In recent years, the average membership fee has usually been between 3 and 4 euros per month.

Services of the Chamber of Labor

The Saarland Chamber of Labor is a service provider. It offers information, advice and education to its members and does research for their interests. Their offer ranges from personal consultation to written information in the form of leaflets, brochures and newspapers that appear several times a year to a constantly growing online offer.

The Chamber of Labor's specialist advisors provide information on issues relating to labor and social law, income tax, and education and training.

The consumer advice center , with which the Chamber of Labor has concluded a cooperation agreement, is also located in the House of Advice . The Chamber of Labor also offers its members the opportunity to seek advice on consumer protection, environmental and financial issues. AK members only need to pay half of the consultation fees (maximum 15 euros) to the consumer advice center. The Chamber of Labor pays the other part of the consulting costs.

Together with the German Trade Union Federation Saar , the Chamber of Labor also set up the advice center for socially compatible technology design BEST eV, which is located in the main building of the Chamber of Labor in Fritz-Dobisch-Strasse in Saarbrücken. Legal form and structure of the Chamber of Labor

The Saarland Chamber of Labor was founded in 1951 as a public corporation . All tasks are specified in the law on the Saarland Chamber of Labor.

The meeting of representatives

The representative assembly of the Saarland Chamber of Labor has 42 members who are elected by the Saarland state parliament for six years.

To simplify matters, the AK representative assembly is a kind of parliament that “determines the guidelines for the implementation of the statutory tasks of the Saarland Chamber of Labor and monitors the implementation of the resolutions.” The representatives assembly “decides on all questions that are of fundamental importance ...” the main tasks in the law on the Saarland Chamber of Labor.

The board of directors

The board of directors is elected from among the representatives' assembly. A two-thirds majority is required for the election of the chairman and his deputy, and a simple majority for the assessor.

The board of directors oversees the management of the general manager. It also decides on the affairs of the Chamber of Labor that are not assigned to the Assembly of Representatives or the General Manager by law or the statutes. The board prepares the deliberations of the representative assembly and monitors the execution of the resolutions. He orders and calls the manager.

Managing directors

The management of the Chamber of Labor consists of the general manager and the managing director. The general manager is elected by the representative assembly for eight years. The managing director is appointed and dismissed by the board of directors.

The general manager represents the Chamber of Labor together with the chairman of the board or, if he is unable to do so, with his deputy to the outside world. In doing so, they are bound by the resolutions of the representative assembly and the board of directors.

Departments, staff units and committees

The Chamber of Labor is divided into six departments. In addition, there are staff units that report directly to the management or the board of directors. Each department is assigned a committee that is elected by the representative assembly. The committees can submit motions to the board of directors or the meeting of representatives and report to them on the work within the departments.
