Live and act

After finishing school, Weinert began training as a textile merchant and from 1924 studied art history and psychology in Königsberg. At the same time he attended the Manzau painting school from 1925 and from 1927 to 1931 was a master student of Alexander Kolde , who in turn was once a student of Lovis Corinth in Berlin. Participation in exhibitions in Königsberg and Berlin until 1936. From 1940 onwards he was deployed in the war and after his return from captivity, he lived first in Osterholz-Scharmbeck and later in Bremen until his death.

Over 1,000 of his works were lost during the war, so he had to start over. But his work never suffered as a result and he created over 300 works by the time he died. As early as 1946, the first exhibitions took place in Osterholz-Scharmbeck and above all in the artist village of Worpswede .

It was here that he met the then director of the Bremen State Art School, Willy Menz, and this resulted in his appointment as a lecturer at this school. With Menz he was one of the first art educators involved in the reconstruction of the then Staatl. Bremen Art School played a decisive role: as head of the preparatory course, deputy director and temporarily acting director.

His teaching activity, which extended to the experiences of the Bauhaus , but also to his knowledge from the last decades before his death, was highly regarded by his students as well as by the entire teaching staff. Weinert's very own teaching method also received great attention and recognition beyond the borders of Bremen. Unfortunately, due to his progressive Parkinson's disease, he was unable to publish his methods and experiences.

One of his students - the later internationally known painter Otto Quirin later wrote about his color theory: "..... as far as I have an overview, I believe that the Bremen art school has the best education to offer the students of the general drawing room!". Seriously ill, Karl Gustav Weinert gave up his 12-year teaching activity in 1958.

After 1945 there were exhibitions in Bremen, Düsseldorf and Goslar and after his death there were exhibitions in Bremen, Elmshorn (SH), Syke near Bremen and currently in Ettlingen near Karlsruhe.
