Karl Hellwig

Karl Hellwig (born February 1, 1924 in Steinau an der Strasse ; † January 7, 1993 ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament .

Life

After graduating from high school, doing military service and being a prisoner of war from 1946 to 1948, Karl Hellwig trained as a teacher. From 1948 to 1970 he worked as a teacher in Steinau.

Karl Hellwig was a member of the SPD and was for his party from 1964 community representative in Steinau and from 1968 to 1974 chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Schlüchtern district . After the regional reform in Hesse , he was a member of the district council of the Main-Kinzig district from 1974 to 1977 . From December 1, 1970 to August 4, 1983 Hellwig was a member of the Hessian state parliament for over 4 electoral terms. In 1974 he was a member of the 6th Federal Assembly . Karl Hellwig was a board member from 1949 to 1970 (from 1961 to 1970 as district chairman) of the GEW .

NSDAP membership

In a study published by historian Hans-Peter Klausch on behalf of the Die Linke parliamentary group in the Hessian state parliament in 2011 , Karl Hellwig's membership in the NSDAP is revealed. According to this study, he was accepted as a member of the NSDAP on January 1, 1944 under membership number 9,670,567. The study points out that Hellwig applied for admission at the age of 19 and was one of those who “can be seen as young victims of years of indoctrination, from which they broke free after the war at the latest”.
