Karl Hertzog

Karl Hertzog (born November 26, 1875 in Görlitz , † September 25, 1960 in Graefelfing ) was a German administrative lawyer. He was the Lord Mayor of Merseburg.

Life

Hertzog graduated from high school at Easter 1895 and studied law at the Philipps University in Marburg , the University of Leipzig and the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University . He was a member of the Corps Hasso-Nassovia (1895) and the Corps Saxonia Leipzig (1896). From 1898 he was a court trainee in Niesky, Görlitz and Breslau, from March 1903 a court assessor in Gleiwitz, Schweidnitz and Görlitz. Then he switched to the communal service. On April 1, 1904, he became a paid city councilor and syndic of the city of Görlitz. In 1914 he was assigned to the deputy directorate of the 5th Army in Poznan .

In March 1917 he was elected First Mayor and later Lord Mayor of Merseburg. At that time the city developed into an important industrial center. In autumn 1918 Hertzog prevented the workers 'and soldiers' council from taking over the administration . Nevertheless, he was exposed to sharp political attacks. He finally resigned and for political reasons did not stand for re-election. In the following years he worked as a lawyer in Merseburg. In 1953 he moved to Graefelfing.
