Youth and education

Karl Immendorf was born in 1692 in Haselünne, where his father as a captain in the garrison was. His mother, née Riccius, laid the foundation for the piety of their only child. He was taken to the grammar school in Meppen, where he developed a predilection for the Jesuit order of his teachers at an early age.

He then studied philosophy in Münster and was accepted into the Society of Jesus in Cologne in 1712 .

For three years he taught at the grammar school in Strasbourg , where his mother's brother was auxiliary bishop . After that he held the same office in Cologne for just as long. Then he returned to Strasbourg. There he completed his theological training at the royal university there and defended the theses with such great and undivided applause that various provinces wished to draw him into their colleges. In Strasbourg he also learned written and spoken French .

Then he returned to Haselünne, was ordained a priest and in 1724 sent to Meppen.

Here he worked with apostolic zeal as a preacher , confessor , sick visitor and catechist . His activity was not limited to the Emsland , as his good reputation had meanwhile spread widely. He was loved by Catholics and Protestants alike because of his dignity and humility .

Superior Franz Kemper died in 1738 after about 14 years. Karl Immendorf was appointed as his successor and thus became the head of the residence.

Through his tireless commitment and his manner, which was loved by both the people and the court, sufficient funds were made available to both the residency and to replace the dilapidated church with a new building, today's grammar school church .

Sickness and dying
