After attending Ludwigsrealschule, Keck studied at Heinrich Knirr's painting school and at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts with professors Hermann Groeber and Franz von Stuck .

Keck specialized in landscape and city pictures as well as the representation of interiors and still lifes. Frequent motifs were the representative halls of the residence, castles and palaces of Munich (see Fig. Festsaal der Badenburg). The painter's versatility is evident in his oeuvre, which also includes pictures of people and portraits (e.g. gypsy, little flower friend) as well as compositions with religious themes (e.g. crucifixion).
