Karl Killmeyer

Karl Killmeyer (born October 29, 1923 in Vienna ; † October 23, 2015 ) was an Austrian speedway racing driver.

Career

He achieved his success in the years 1946 to 1958.

He won international races in Germany, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, Hungary, France, Denmark, England, Sweden and Norway. In South Africa he won the international match between Europe and South Africa. The greatest success was the victory in the race for the Austrian Speedway-Brillantring in 1953. The highlights of his career included the successes in Prague in 1954 and 1956; at the start were in front of 100,000 spectators with drivers from seven nations.

Before the Second World War, his brother Leopold Killmeyer, 14 years older than him, was internationally successful as a speedway, dirt track and grass track racing driver. After the war, the two brothers contested races together and were internationally known as the Killmeyer brothers.

Karl Killmeyer also worked as a sports journalist and singer. With his "Speedway Fox" (text: Karl Killmeyer / music: Ferry Wunsch) he reached 1st place on the Austrian charts.

He died on October 23, 2015 at the age of 91 and was buried on November 5, 2015 at the Hietzinger Friedhof .
