Karl Krömelbein

Karl Krömmelbein (born January 17, 1920 in Frankfurt am Main , † June 7, 1979 in Kiel ) was a German geologist and micropalaeontologist.

Krömelbein attended the Helmholtz School in Frankfurt from 1930 and passed his school-leaving examination there in 1938. He received his doctorate in 1951 from the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . His dissertation was entitled The Geology of the Salmerwald Mulde . He completed his habilitation in Frankfurt in 1954 on geology and paleontology, was an adjunct professor in Frankfurt in 1961 and, from 1962, full professor of palaeontology at the University of Kiel .

Among other things, he dealt with ostracods , the chalk in Brazil and the Congo . His dissertation and subsequent work dealt with the Devon the Eifel and especially the Kalkmulden .

The Senckenberg Research Institute and the Senckenberg Naturmuseum Frankfurt have integrated the post-paleozoic Krömmelbein Collection into their micropalaeontological collections. It contains over 21,000 cataloged items. Krömelbein worked with Wolfgang Struve at the Senckenberg Research Institute .

Karl Krömelbein was married to a sister of the wife of the former Hessian Minister of Economics, Heinz-Herbert Karry . The politician Karry and the physicist and inventor Gustav Heinzmann , as well as the Germanist and philosopher Kurt Weigand, were Krömmelbein's classmates. He was close friends with the latter.
