Karl Kurz (born February 8, 1893 in Tullau , † August 19, 1978 in Hessental ; also called Fasskarle ) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

Karl Kurz was born in Tullau as one of six children. After graduating from high school in Schwäbisch Hall in 1912 , he studied architecture and civil engineering at the Technical University in Stuttgart . In 1914 he came to the front as a volunteer in World War I , fought in Serbia and Verdun and was wounded twice. In the officer's degree, he received several awards for “special bravery”, including the Knight's Cross of the Hohenzollern House Order with crown and swords .

Kurz was seen as an opponent of the National Socialists and opposed the " Nero order ". He was arrested several times by the Gestapo and barely escaped imprisonment in Welzheim concentration camp .

As an entrepreneur, Kurz volunteered in committees of the Heilbronn-Franken Chamber of Industry and Commerce and in the district council of the Schwäbisch Hall district . For his services he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Kurz was married and had three children.

Achievements and work as an entrepreneur

In 1920, Karl Kurz joined the Hessental barrel factory and became the sole shareholder in 1925. The company developed strongly in the war and post-war years. In 1955, Karl Kurz and Rudolf Then founded the company Rudolf Then Färbereimaschinen GmbH in Hessental , where textile machines were manufactured. In 1963 the family KG was renamed " K. Kurz Hessental KG ". In the 1960s, the barrel factory comprised the main plant in Hessental and three branch plants; in total, the company had around 1200 employees during this time. In the 1970s he passed the company on to his son Manfred Kurz.
