Life

Spökenkieker, Museum Mühlenhof in Münster (1970)

After graduating from high school Paulinum in Münster in 1949, Breilmann completed an apprenticeship as a stonemason and then studied architecture in Darmstadt . He received his artistic training at the State Art School in Hamburg from Edwin Scharff , who had a decisive influence on him. His works were characterized by clear forms and a design reduced to the essentials.

Breilmann has lived in Roxel since 1970.

The Heimathaus Münsterland (today Museum Religio ) in Telgte dedicated a large retrospective to Breilmann in 2010. In 2016 the Museum Mühlenhof showed an exhibition with 100 of his works. In 2013 Breilmann donated his estate to the Museum Religio in Telgte. 1700 drafts, sketches and sculptures were subsequently handed over. The catalog raisonné maintained by Breilmann's wife Renate includes around 500 works.
