Karl Lanjus von Wellenburg

Karl Count Lanjus von Wellenberg (born May 9, 1856 in San Martino al Tagliamento , † August 22, 1913 in Pola ) was an Austrian naval officer and most recently vice admiral of the Austro-Hungarian Navy .

Life

Lanjus von Wellenberg attended the Naval Academy Fiume , from which he joined the Austro-Hungarian Navy as a midshipman in 1874 . First, he served on several warships before 1891 at the rank of Battleship lieutenants returned to the Naval Academy, where Takelkunde and maneuvered taught. In 1896 he was transferred to the torpedo ship Sebenico and then to the casemate ship Prinz Eugen . In 1896 he was promoted to corvette captain.

After further commands on board of warships, Lanjus von Wellenburg became deputy commandant of the Naval Academy in August 1900 and taught, among other things, naval tactics and maritime law . In 1902 he became the commander of the small cruiser Szigetvár .

In 1903 he worked as a board member of the VII. Department of the Naval Technical Committee in Pola, before he took command of several warships from 1905 and was promoted to captain of the liner . First he commanded the battleship Monarch , then the battleship Árpád . In 1907 he took over the artillery school ships Radetzky and Adria until he became Deputy President of the Naval Technical Committee in November 1908. In this office in 1909 he was promoted to Kontreadmiral .

In 1910 Lanjus von Wellenberg became the commander of the reserve squadre . In 1911 the command of the 2nd Heavy Division of the fleet followed and from September 1911 to September 1912 of the 1st Squadron .

He then became President of the Naval Technical Committee, where he was promoted to Vice Admiral in 1913. In this capacity he was fatally injured in a gun attempt.
