Karl Niederist

Karl Niederist (born June 1, 1863 in Münster , Tyrol ; † November 9, 1926 there ) was an Austrian politician of the Christian Social Party (CSP).

education and profession

Karl Niederist, who had attended elementary school in Münster, ran a farm in his home town. For many years he was the mayor of Münster, chairman of the Raiffeisenkasse and the fruit and cattle breeders' association of the Lower Inn Valley, as well as an honorary member of several volunteer fire brigades and rifle associations. In 1903 he was elected as a Christian Social Member of the Austrian Reichsrat , of which he was a member until its dissolution in 1918.

In 1904 he gave a widely acclaimed speech at the Sterzing Farmers 'Day and was elected to the board of the Tyrolean Farmers' Union in the same year, of which he was a co-founder.

In the X. (1908-1914) and XI. Election period (1914–1918), as a member of the Rattenberg , Kufstein , Fügen and Zell region, he took on the task of representing the interests of farmers in the Tyrolean state parliament. In 1918 he was again appointed to the legislative state assembly, but was no longer represented in the actual state parliament.

As a member of Parliament, he was particularly noticeable for his gritty speeches mixed with drastic Tyrolean idioms. In 1915 he had to atone for his commitment to the farmers who had been burdened by food deliveries and services in kind for the military by being exiled from Tyrol for a long period of time, to which he was made subject by order of the National Defense Command. Only half a year later, Governor Kathrein was able to have this legally uncovered measure lifted.

After the war he was a member of both the constituent national assembly and the national council. Because of the large number of offices he held - in 1911 he was a community leader, member of the state parliament and Reichsrat and member of the board of directors of the Tyrolean farmers' association - he was repeatedly confronted with the accusation that he was using his position to take advantage of matters to be negotiated at the municipal level Direction to steer.

Niederist died of purulent peritonitis after a ruptured bowel that he suffered when he fell on a bicycle . His funeral turned out to be a state act, attended by a large number of companions, Governor Franz Stumpf , Federal Chancellor Ignaz Seipel and the President of the National Council, Wilhelm Miklas .
