Karl Nutzinger

Karl Nutzinger (born March 25, 1911 in Wilhelmsburg (Lower Austria) , † March 13, 1979 in Admont ( Upper Styria )) was an Austrian flower grower with a focus on fuchsias , dahlias and roses .

Life

Karl Nutzinger completed an apprenticeship as a gardener and became a gardener and finally master gardener in the nursery of the Benedictine monastery in Admont . His professional activity also became his calling: His fuchsia and dahlia cultivars gained international recognition far beyond Austria, also in the form of high awards. In 1980, one year after his death, the Karl-Nutzinger Prize was founded in his honor, which is awarded annually to flower lovers who are particularly deserving of fuchsias. Among its many flower varieties, the fuchsia variety Elfriede Ott in particular enjoys the greatest international recognition to this day. In Austria he was one of the pioneers of the Fuchsiengesellschaft, the association of Austrian fuchsia lovers.
