Karl Oskar Meves

Karl Oskar Meves (born February 8, 1828 in Sorau , † October 3, 1898 in Berlin ) was a German judge .

Life

He was the son of the Sorauer court director Gustav Meves. He went to school in Pforta . He studied in Berlin. In 1850 he was sworn in to the Prussian sovereign and then worked as an auscultator and trainee lawyer in the Frankfurt / Oder appellate court district. At first he was unpaid and provisional district judge in Heilsberg . In 1857 or 1858 he was a district judge there with a salary of 1500 marks. In 1860 he was appointed public prosecutor there. In the same year he was transferred to Löbau and in 1864 to Naugard . In 1869 he came to Anklam and in 1873 to Tilsit . In 1874 he was a judge of appeal in Insterburg and in 1879 an appellate judge in Posen . On the New Year of 1883 he entered the imperial court . In 1884 he came to the IV Criminal Senate of the Reichsgericht , which he remained in until retirement. From 1887 he headed Goltdammer's archive for criminal law . In 1892 he gave up the management of the magazine for health reasons. For this reason, he asked for retirement on December 1, 1896. In 1895 he was awarded an honorary doctorate on the occasion of the inauguration of the new Imperial Court building from the law faculty of the University of Leipzig. With his retirement he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class. He died in October 1898 in his retirement home in Berlin.
