Karl Otto Bonnier
Karl Otto Bonnier (born June 20, 1856 in Stockholm ; † May 26, 1941 there ) was a Swedish publisher .
The son and heir of Albert Bonnier expanded the family business by buying other publishers and developed it into Sweden's most important literary publisher. Authors such as August Strindberg , Verner von Heidenstam , Gustaf Fröding , Selma Lagerlöf and Hjalmar Söderberg were under contract with him and were loyal and friendly to the Bonnier family. But Bonnier also published cheaper books for the general public, school books and magazines such as Bonniers månadshafts , Bonniers veckotidning and Bonniers novellmagasin .
In 1916 he acquired the profitable newspaper kiosk company Svenska pressbyrån , which he sold in 1940. In 1903 Karl Otto Bonnier became a member of the management team at Dagens Nyheter and was elected chairman of the board after acquiring large stakes in the newspaper company. In 1929 Bonnier succeeded in gaining the majority of the shares. Bonnier also bought the magazine publisher Åhlén & Åkerlund in 1929 with its high-circulation weekly newspapers such as Vecko-Journalen and Husmodern
In 1882 Karl Otto Bonnier married Lisen Josephson (1861–1952), who, like himself, came from a Swedish-Jewish entrepreneurial family, and had six children with her.
