Karl Pretzsch (librarian)

Karl Pretzsch (born March 31, 1863 in Zeitz ; † June 13, 1942 ) was a German librarian and author.

Life

Karl Pretzsch studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and the united Friedrichs-Universität Halle-Wittenberg geography and history and was on September 26, 1889 in Halle with his dissertation The importance of the ports on the west coast of the Indian Ocean in old and new times . Part I. The port conditions in the period up to the arrival of the Portuguese to the Dr. phil. PhD . He then worked from 1890 as a volunteer at the Royal University Library in Berlin, where he was subsequently appointed assistant librarian in April 1894 and assistant librarian in April 1897. From April 1, 1901, he worked as a librarian at the University Library in Breslau . Here, outside of his service time, he compiled a directory of the Breslau university publications from 1811 to 1885, which was published in 1905. In 1908 he was transferred back to the Royal University Library in Berlin as a librarian from Breslau, where he later became senior librarian and in 1911 he was given the rank of council first class . In 1915 he was transferred from the Royal University Library to the Royal Library in Berlin (later: Prussian State Library, today: State Library of Berlin ) and in 1922 he was appointed director of the map department of the Prussian State Library in Berlin.
