Karl Rohr (born July 11, 1954 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

With Lüttringhausen in the second division (1979–1985)

In the 1979/80 season, the midfielder Rohr was accepted into the squad of TuS 08 Langerwehe , which was then in the third-class Oberliga Nordrhein. He finished fifth with the team and was poached in 1980 by league rivals BV 08 Lüttringhausen from Remscheid. He had found an ambitious club that immediately placed itself in the top group and at the end of the 1981/82 season even made it to the professionally oriented second division. Even after the promotion, Rohr was still intended as an undisputed top performer and made his professional debut when he stood on the field on August 7, 1982 in a 4-2 win against SpVgg Fürth ; at that time he was already 28 years old. He didn't miss a single game over the next two years and was able to keep the class with his teammates in 1983, whereas relegation came a year later. So he had to say goodbye to the second division after 76 contested encounters without a goal of his own. Nevertheless, he remained loyal to his club, which was also renamed BVL 08 Remscheid , which was close to the top in the major league, but ultimately lagged behind the promoted 1. FC Bocholt . Then in 1985 he left Lüttringhausen.

Captain at MSV Duisburg (1986–1989)

1986 Rohr accepted an offer from MSV Duisburg, who had been relegated from the second division, and immediately took over the captain's armband for the founding member of the Bundesliga. At the side of Toni Puszamszies he took over responsibility for the defense department of the Meidericher. Although the team, which had many newcomers, had coped well with the relegation and immediately found itself back on top, but at the end of the 1986/87 season, Rohr's ex-club from Remscheid took first place in the table. So the MSV failed in direct resurgence, but could at least participate in the German Amateur Championship and reached the final there. In the final against the amateurs of FC Bayern Munich , Rohr led a team onto the field as captain, which had players in Michael Tönnies and Thomas Strunz who would later make a name for themselves in the Bundesliga. Even if Rohr was not granted this, he could at least celebrate winning a national title with a 4-1 final win against Bayern with the amateur championship. He then remained an integral part of the team and was involved in the return to the second division in 1989. Mainly for professional reasons, he turned his back on Duisburg after 89 league games with two goals in the same year and thus retired from football shortly before his 35th birthday.
