Karl Sattler (politician, 1850)

Karl Heinrich Christian Sattler (born January 26, 1850 in Varrel ; † July 13, 1906 in Berlin ) was a German archivist and national liberal politician. He was the son of the Protestant pastor Hermann Christian Sattler and his mother, Caroline Rambke, who was born in England.

Life

In 1873 Sattler became an assistant teacher at a grammar school in Göttingen . A year later he became an archive candidate at the Magdeburg State Archives . In the following years he worked at various state archives and rose to the position of archive secretary in Königsberg until 1876 . In 1879 Sattler was appointed acting director of the State Archives in Poznan . He later worked in Hanover before becoming the secret state archivist in the secret state archive in 1888 . In the same year he was appointed archivist. Sattler became the second director of the Prussian state archives in 1896.

Politically, Sattler was a leading politician in the National Liberal Party. He was a member of the board of directors or the central board.

Between 1884 and 1888 and from 1898 he was a member of the Reichstag . From 1886 until his death, Sattler was also a member of the Prussian House of Representatives , in which he represented the constituency of the city of Hanover.
