Karl Schultheis
Karl Schultheis (born January 28, 1953 in Aachen ) was group leader for research in the Ministry of Science and Research of North Rhine-Westphalia and is a member of the SPD in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia . In the 2009 municipal elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, he ran for the office of Lord Mayor of Aachen.
Life
Karl Schultheis was born in the Marianneninstitut and attended elementary school from 1959 to 1966 and the Episcopal Pius-Gymnasium Aachen from 1966 to 1973 , interrupted by a student exchange year 1970 to 1971 at the Westlake Boys High School in Auckland, New Zealand . In 1973 he graduated from high school .
Karl Schultheis studied history and English from 1974 to 1982 at RWTH Aachen University . He passed the first state examination for teaching at the grammar school in 1982 and passed the second state examination in 1985. He then worked as a teacher at the vocational training and trade promotion facility of the Aachen Chamber of Crafts .
Karl Schultheis is married and has one son.
Political activity
From 1995 to 1998 he was personal advisor and head of the staff group of the then Minister for Science and Research of North Rhine-Westphalia, Anke Brunn . From 1998 to 2005 he took on the position of research group leader in the Ministry of Science and Research of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Karl Schultheis has been a member of the SPD since 1969. From 1976 to 1981 he was chairman of the local SPD association in Aachen-Richterich . From 1990 to 1994 deputy chairman of the SPD sub-district Aachen-Stadt. He has been its chairman here since 1994. Karl Schultheis has been a member of the regional presidium of the SPD NRW since 2002 , and from 2004 to 2006 he was deputy chairman of the SPD NRW. From 1977 to 1989 he was a member of the Aachen-Richterich district council . Since 1989 he has been a member of the Aachen City Council. There he is spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group in the committee for economy, science and European affairs.
From May 30, 1985 to May 31, 1995, Schultheis was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament for the first time. In 2005 he was re-elected to the state parliament, to which he has been a member since June 8, 2005. In the current legislative period he is the spokesman for his group in the committee for innovation, science, research and technology and continues to be a member of the petitions committee and the culture committee. The state election in 2010 and the state election in 2012 in the state parliament constituency Aachen I won Schultheis.
Karl Schultheis is a member of the Education and Science Union (GEW) , the Workers' Welfare Association (AWO) and the Socialist Youth of Germany “ Die Falken ”.
In 2009 he ran for the office of Lord Mayor of Aachen, but was narrowly defeated by Marcel Philipp (CDU).
