Karl August Wilhelm Hugo Theodor Uhlisch (born June 23, 1891 in Braunschweig ; † September 26, 1958 ibid.) Was a German composer who composed marching songs and hits .

Life

Karl Theodor Uhlisch was born as the son of the businessman Karl Moritz Julius Uhlisch and his wife Emilie Frieda Anna Uhlisch, née Meyer. In 1916 he married Hedwig Siegeler in Lehe (Bremerhaven) , their son Günter was born in 1920. Hedwig Uhlisch died in 1955, and in 1958 Uhlisch married Adelheid Heinicke. In 1923 Uhlisch registered a trade in sea fish, and in 1935 a trading agency for glass, porcelain and hotel supplies. From 1949 to 1952 he ran a mail order business for hotel and commercial kitchen supplies.

Uhlisch is known as a "hobby composer". He composed his best-known song Köhlerliesel in 1923 during a recreational stay in Altenau in the Upper Harz Mountains as a hobby. In the following three decades the song hardly found its way out of the native Harz mountains. In the mid-1950s, Uhlisch lived on the welfare of the city of Braunschweig . It was not until 1957 that the song was published commercially and released on record in May of this year by the yodeler Erich Storz and his “folk musicians”. Also in 1957 the song was sung by the group “ Die Heimatsänger ” and was at the top of the charts for four weeks. Due to the success of the title, Uhlisch's financial situation improved shortly before his death.

In 1951, Uhlisch submitted a proposal to the Federal Ministry of the Interior for a new version of the German national anthem .
