Karl Traugott Thieme
Karl Traugott Thieme (born January 28, 1745 in Canitz near Oschatz ; † May 30, 1802 in Löbau ) was a German pastor, teacher at several schools and a writer specializing in enlightenment and popular education.
Thieme studied theology in Leipzig and received his doctorate in 1775 with a disputation on the subject of De linguis methodice discendis dissertatio . He was then a catechist at St. Petri in Leipzig. On December 16, 1776 he took up the position of Rector of the Lyceum in Lübben in Lower Lusatia . In 1788 he was rector of the collegiate school in Merseburg. From 1798 rector in Löbau .
Thieme made a name for himself by answering Rudolph Zacharias Becker's question about the obstacles to self-thinking in Germany , in which his treatise won.
