Karl Ventzke (born June 25, 1933 in Kragen , Pomerania; † 2005 ) was a German authorized signatory and musical instrument expert .

Live and act

Karl Ventzke studied at the Munich University of Political Sciences until 1959 . Until 2002 he worked full-time as an authorized signatory in Düren .

From 1967 to 1996 he was presbyter of the Evangelical Congregation in Düren . From 1972 to 1988 he was a member of the district synodal committee and from 1973 to 1992 preaching assistant. He was the author and co-author of several publications on the history of the Evangelical Congregation in Düren , the Jülich Church District and on musicological topics.

In 1999 Ventzke bequeathed his collection of historical wind instruments to the Musicological Institute of the University of Tübingen for teaching and research purposes. For this donation, the University of Tübingen awarded him the Dr. phil. hc The collection was opened in May 2000, is on display in the back room of the library and is accessible to those interested by prior registration. It includes more than 100 wind instruments, mainly from the 19th century. The main focuses are

  • the wind instruments of the symphony orchestra at the end of the 19th century
  • the development of the flute from 1800 to 1925
  • Bassoon and Basson: From Savary (1824) to Heckel (ca.1910)
  • the wind quintet around 1810/20
  • French and German saxophones.

The collection thus documents the stormy technical developments and new constructions in instrument making in the 19th century.

Ventzke was the curator of the Schenkel-Schoeller-Stift in Düren- Niederau . He was the bearer of the citizen medal of the city of Düren and the crown cross of the Diakonie in gold.
