Karl Wallinger

Karl Wallinger (born October 19, 1957 in Prestatyn ) is a Welsh musician.

life and career

Wallinger was heavily influenced by the music of the Beatles , Beach Boys , Bob Dylans, and Love at a young age . He attended the Charterhouse School in Surrey.

Wallinger's musical career began in the 1970s with membership in a number of less successful bands. In the following years he became musical director of the Rocky Horror Show . From 1983 to 1986 he was keyboard player for the group The Waterboys . The single The Whole of the Moon included on the third album This Is the Sea , released in October 1985, reached number 40 in the UK charts in 1985, and even number 3 in the UK charts when it was re-released in 1991.

From 1985 he devoted himself to his own project World Party . The first release Private Revolution (1987) is a mixture of folk, funk and soul music and contained a smaller radio hit with Ship of Fools . Other world party albums followed: Goodbye Jumbo, Bang !, Egyptology and Dumbing Up. He also worked on Sinéad O'Connor's 1987 debut album The Lion and the Cobra .

Wallinger was musical director of the film Reality Bites in 1994 . In 1996 he worked on the soundtrack for the film Clueless - What Else! With. She's the One , written by Wallinger, was covered by Robbie Williams in 1999 and was a great success. Wallinger also worked for a time with Bob Geldof .

Wallinger was slow to recover from an aneurysm rupture in 2000 . In 2006 he went on his first tour after recovering from the disease.

Wallinger also played a key role in the world music project Big Blue Ball . The CD of the same name was released in 2008. Peter Gabriel composed most of the tracks on it .

In the spring of 2012 Wallinger released the box set Arkeology, which contains 70 predominantly previously unreleased pieces from World Party on five CDs, mostly live versions of well-known recordings, but also previously unheard cover versions of mostly Beatles songs from the time of the White album. The work was published as a perpetual calendar in ring binding, which contains countless photos from the tape archive and information about the individual songs.
