Karl Wegrath
Karl Wegrath (born February 19, 1932 in Szombathely , Hungary, † October 14, 2018 in Judenburg ) was an Austrian table tennis player . At the European Championship in 1962 he won bronze in doubles.
Career
Karl Wegrath came from Judenburg and played for the Styrian club Alpine Donawitz . In October 1952 he received Austrian citizenship. He was Austrian champion in singles four times (1954, 1958, 1962, 1963), several times he won the title in doubles and mixed. In the Austrian ranking list he took first place in 1957/58.
From 1951 to 1963 he took part in seven world championships , but never came close to medal ranks. He achieved his greatest international success at the European Championship in 1962 , when he reached the semi-finals in doubles together with Hans Jell and was subject to the later title winners Markovic / Teran from Yugoslavia.
From 1945 to 1971 he was nominated for 76 international matches and achieved 106 wins and 69 defeats here. In 1976 he became (before Jell) Austrian senior champion. At that time he was still active in the highest league at ATUS Judenburg.
Karl Wegrath worked in the purchasing department of the Judenburg cast steelworks.

- State sport honor mark in gold of the state sport organization Styria
