Karl Weise (born July 31, 1890 in Berlin , † beginning of February 1947 in Greifswald ) was a German painter of the 20th century.

Life

Christian Hugo Karl Weise was born on July 31, 1890 in Berlin as the eldest son of a high school professor from the Cottbus area and his wife. After an exhibition of graphic works at the age of 16, he studied for ten years after graduating from high school at the Berlin University of Fine Arts and the Royal Academy of the Arts, in particular with Professor Raffael Schuster-Woldan , whose focus was portraits.

Act

From 1921 until the bombing in November 1943, he ran his studio on Kurfürstendamm 196. Until the first years of the war, portraits of people from the capital's public life were created here: actors, business leaders, politicians. His various female nudes also enjoyed a certain popularity . He created many landscape and water pictures at his second residence on Rügen or on the waters around Berlin. Study trips took him to Denmark, Yugoslavia, Italy (Rome, Naples, Venice, Palermo) and Spain (Málaga). For a time he taught painting at the Art Academy in Málaga. His painting style was traditional, he loved oil paints as a means of representation even more than chalk. He did not take part in the great German art exhibitions of the National Socialist era.
