Wilhelm Büchner (Pedagogue)

Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand Büchner (born July 26, 1807 in Bardenitz , † May 13, 1891 in Schwerin ) was a German high school teacher and classical philologist .

Life

Wilhelm Büchner, son of pastor August Friedrich Eberhard Büchner (born October 31, 1768 in Flechtingen / Altmark; † August 17, 1823 in Bardenitz), attended the Lyceum in Wittenberg as a pupil from Easter 1821 to Easter 1827 . After graduating from university, he began at the University of Halle-Wittenberg , where he studied classical philology with Karl Christian Reisig . After he had defended the philosophical dissertation treatise De Graecae Mythologiae origine and Theses controversae on February 13, 1830 , he was awarded a doctorate in philosophy.

Since 1828, Büchner has been working as an assistant teacher at the pedagogy in Halle, after his studies with Michaelis in 1830 he became a collaborator at the Latin school of the orphanage in Halle. In January 1831 he received an adjunct position at the Pforta state school and three years later moved to the grammar school in Halberstadt as a senior teacher . However, he only stayed here for a short time. Four months later, in 1834, he became a senior teacher at the Fridericianum Schwerin . Here he made his home and wrote some writings. He also rose in the professional hierarchy and on November 28, 1865 was rector of the educational institution. In 1874 he fell seriously ill, so that he had to ask for his release in the summer of 1875. He struggled with the disease for the rest of his life until he finally passed away.

Wilhelm Büchner was a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology from 1835 to 1844 .
