Karl Wilhelm Laßwitz

Karl Wilhelm Laßwitz (born March 29, 1809 in Grimmel near Winzig ; † April 26, 1879 ) was an entrepreneur and Prussian politician.

Laßwitz studied theology , but left the university without a degree. In 1833 he founded an educational institution, which he also ran until 1838. He then took up studies in Wroclaw . In 1843 he started his own business as a businessman.

Laßwitz was elected a member of the Prussian National Assembly in 1848. He was also President of the Democratic Association of Wroclaw between 1848 and 1849. In 1850, Laßwitz became a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Breslau. He was also a member of the city council. In 1853 he founded an iron foundry and a mechanical engineering company. In 1859 he was also the founder and director of an advance payment association. In addition, Laßwitz was director of the Silesian trade and business cooperatives in 1862.

Between 1861 and 1867 he was a member of the Silesian Provincial Parliament and between 1863 and 1870 of the Prussian House of Representatives . He belonged to the faction of the Progressive Party .

His son was the writer Kurd Laßwitz .
