Karl Wolfgang Scheiber

Karl Wolfgang Scheiber (born November 4, 1921 in Stanzach ; † February 4, 2012 ) was an Austrian author, dialect poet and regional politician.

Life

Born in Stanzach (Lechtal / Tyrol) as the son of Oldenburg's head hunter Ludwig Scheiber and his wife Anna (née Doser), he attended secondary school in Innsbruck after elementary and secondary school. He wrote two utopian novels, the income from which formed the financial basis for setting up a carpet weaving mill in Stanzach. The weaving mill existed until 1998 and was able to sell its products in Central Europe.

He was a participant in World War II and was released from captivity in 1946. Karl Paulin invited him to work for Radio Tirol and the Tirolean press . He brought out a fairy tale record in "Selbstverlag" and organized numerous events with dialect poems for Radio Tirol. He made a contribution to the Ausserfern by his cultivation of the dialect.

He worked tirelessly for South Tyrol's right to self-determination . In 1957 he founded a party, the “Free Tyrolean Home List”. From 1965 he was state chairman and from 1970 federal chairman of the Bergisel Federation . In this function he was received in 1979 by the then UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim in New York. He was therefore permanently banned from entering Italy. In 1966, after the South Tyrolean associations merged to form the " Union for South Tyrol ", he was their executive chairman. From 1962 to 1965 he was mayor of his home town of Stanzach and moved his main activities to the Tannheimer Tal . In 1970 he founded the Talschaftsverband for advertising purposes. In his 15 years of activity, he introduced international polar dog sled races and delta flight events there.
