from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karlheinz Gierden (born August 7, 1926 in Cologne ) is a CDU politician who has been active in the Cologne region for many years . He was senior district director of the Cologne district and bank manager . Gierden was also involved in various voluntary activities after his professional career.

Live and act

Gierden studied law at the University of Cologne and completed his studies in 1953 with a doctorate and a dissertation on Hegel's doctrine of the state. After his state exams, he worked as a public prosecutor . He joined the CDU in 1946. In 1962 he was elected Oberkreisdirektor (OKD) of the district of Cologne , an office that he held for two terms until autumn 1974. Before the regional reform in North Rhine-Westphalia in North Rhine-Westphalia , he belonged to the district council in Cologne and was also active in the Frechen Council for several years . Later he was also a member of the Cologne City Council .

He represented his party and his circle from 1965 for 37 years in the Regional Assembly of the Rhineland Regional Council from 1969 to 1999 as a faction leader. Here he was particularly involved as chairman of the culture committee. One concern, the development of Brauweiler Abbey , occupied him even after he left.

Due to the changed majority structure, he no longer stood in 1974 for an extension of his OKD office in the then newly formed Rhein-Erft district , but first moved to the board of the Kreissparkasse Köln and was then appointed chairman of the Cologne bank . He held this post from 1979 to 1990.

Gierden is married and has two children and three grandchildren. The former State Secretary Marion Gierden-Jülich (CDU) is his daughter. Gierden lives in Frechen .
